According to PM News, Emmason, an indigene of Mbano in Imo State had lived in South Africa for nine years and decided to relocate his wife, Rita and two children to Port Harcourt where he provided them a flat to stay. After ensuring they were settled in their new home, Emmason told his wife that he was leaving for South Africa.
Unknown to Rita, he went to Abuja to camp at the home of his lover identified as Glory. Emmason had told Glory that he was a single man and was interested in taking her to South Africa so they could get married and live as man and wife. He also promised to take her brothers with them to South Africa.
Whenever Emmason called his wife on phone, he will pretend that he was in South Africa. He allegedly demanded some money from Glory to add to his own to procure four visas which she gave him N400, 000. After he collected the money, he dumped her and relocated to Lagos where he began lodging in a hotel with another woman. He did not procure any visa or return Glory’s money.
Glory later traced him to a hotel where he was lodged in Lagos and got the police to arrest him. When the police requested for the money, he said he had used it to procure three visas which the police later discovered were fake. Emmason was charged to court with obtaining money under false pretence and stealing under the Criminal Code.
The case was heard yesterday October 6th and he pleaded not guilty. The presiding Magistrate, Mrs J. O. E. Adeyemi granted him bail with two sureties who must show evidence of tax payment. He was remanded in prison pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
When his wife Rita, was contacted, she insisted that her husband, Emmason was in South Africa. It was not until she saw her husband in court, that she believed he had been in Nigeria all along.
The matter was adjourned till 19 October, 2015.
