Kogi Governorship: Wada Warn Buhari Not To Interfere

Ahead of the governorship election slated for November 21 in Kogi state, Governor Idris Wada has on Wednesday, October 7, pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari not to interfere with the poll, The Punch reports.

The governor who is contesting for a second term on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party stressed that all that is needed from the president and the federal government is a level playing field before and during the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

Governor Wada will be facing a two time governor of the state, Abubakar Audu, who will contest on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Recounting his performance in the state as governor, Wada stated after his meeting with the president at the presidential villa in Abuja that he was confident that the people of Kogi state would return him for a second tenure.

He expressed his hope that the president would be transparent in the Kogi governorship poll.

He said: “I will tell the people of the state to keep faith because we have a transparent President. Provided a level playing field is created and security is tightened, any miscreant dealt with in the course of the election, people given the opportunity to express their will,  I believe that on the basis of performance I have laid down over the last three-and-a-half years, our people will provide an overwhelming support for my candidacy. All we need is a level playing field.”

On the issue of security during the election, Wada said that he was working closely with the various security agencies to ensure that there is a secure and safe environment for the people of the state in the course of the campaign and during the election.

He added that he has been working hard ahead of the elections.

The former governor of the state, Prince Audu has reacted to reports credited to the state chairman of the APC that he will return the N11 billion he allegedly stole from the state’s coffers.
