A high court in Makurdi, Benue state,
ruled in November that the ban slammed on Dr. Jeremiah Abalaka stopping
him from producing his vaccines against HIV/AIDS should be lifted.
Abalaka claims that he has a cure for
HIV/AIDS. But the so-called vaccine has not been approved and was banned
but now the court has lifted that ban.
The Network of People living with
HIV/AIDS in Nigeria (NEPWHAN) and several civil societies organisations
are raising alarm over the ruling which they believe will set back the
gains made in HIV/AIDS response in the country.
According to the National Coordinator of
NEPWHAN, Edward Ogenyi, the ruling could be catastrophic for people
living with the virus.
Ogenyi said that free services given to
persons living with the HIV virus have suffered a severe blow because
donors suddenly stopped paying for such services.
NEPWHAN fears that persons living with the virus might be deceived into receiving treatment from Abalaka.
NEPWHAN is still lamenting a court ruling that lifted ban on Dr. Abalaka’s so-called HIV/AIDS cure
