Relegation bound EPL side, Newcastle United yesterday unveiled top European coach, Rafa Benitez as the new manager of the side in a desperate move to change the club’s fortunes. This came hours after the club sacked Steve McClaren.
55-year-old Benitez has handled numerous top clubs across Europe including Liverpool, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid. He has also won some of the biggest trophies in Europe including the Champions League with Liverpool in 2005, Europa League with Chelsea in 2013, Club World Cup with Inter in 2010 amongst other.
With Newcastle currently languishing in the relegation zone sitting at 19th on the EPL spot, many believe Benitez’s introduction might just be the saving instinct for the team in the coming weeks.
One of the club’s legend and highest goal scorer of all time, Alan Shearer has also described the new coach as a ‘great coup’ which might just save the club.
‘It’s a great coup for Newcastle to get someone like Benitez, if – and it’s a big if – he can manage the football club the way he wants to manage,’ Alan Shearer said.
