The influential Nollywood actress has been sentenced to of 5 years imprisonment by the appellate court although her lawyers have made an immediate move to file a Notice of Appeal in the Supreme Court.
In a judgement delivered by Justice Jamilu Yammama Tukur earlier today, Ibinabo was found guilty of reckless driving which led to the death of a Lagos doctor, Suraj Giwa in 2006.
The trial, which has been heard at various lower courts, has seen the actress, who was once sentenced to a 5 year jail term with an option of N100,000 fine by a Magistrate Court, had her fine option removed by a High Court for dangerous and reckless driving. The fine option removal has now been affirmed by the Appeal Court which also upheld the jugdement of Justice Deborah Oluwayemi sending her to 5 years in prison.
Ibinabo, according to reports, broke down in tears and was inconsolable following the judgement.
