Lawyers, under the aegis of Lawyers For Change, on Friday morning,
staged a solidarity rally around major streets of Ilorin, the Kwara
State capital, to sensitise residents on All Progressives Congress (APC)
presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari and his
vice-presidential candidate, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, in the February 14
general polls.
The lawyers moved in a convoy of cars with banners and posters to
explain to residents, in their homes, market places, shops, offices and
streets, the benefits accrued to the country by voting for
Buhari/Osinbajo ticket.
Speaking with journalists, the National Coordinator of the group, Mr
Adesina Ogunlana, said the lawyers were convinced that if elected, the
duo would usher in a lot of benefits to Nigeria.
“We are ordinarily happy about General Muhammadu Buhari.
He’s fit and proper, but the icing on the cake is the appointment of
Professor Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) who we know very intimately because we
share the same profession.”
“Professor Yemi Osinbajo as the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney
General in Lagos state is a big time system builder and we believe that
if such person is elevated to the epicentre of power in Nigeria, to the
level of vice presidency in Nigeria, bearing in mind that
constitutionally he’s a good deputy to someone like General Muhammadu
Buhari, the nation will be better for it.
“He’s been a teacher of Law since 1983.
He was called to Bar in 1979.
He became a professor at the age of 33 in 1990.
Thousands of lawyers today were his students and they all attest to his
exceptional mental capacity and he is of a very high moral fiber, a
surpassingly decent human being and he’s translated from mere
theoretical knowledge into actual system building going by his
outstanding achievements as the Attorney General and Commissioner for
Justice in eight years, which Lagos and indeed Nigeria judicial system
have immensely benefited from”, he said.
The Lawyers For Change national coordinator, who said members of the
group were not ashamed of being partisan, said other lawyers could stand
up to support any other candidate, “there is enough space for all the
birds to fly in the sky.
“But for us, having this knowledge about this fellow, it would be wrong
of us to sit in the comfort of our chambers, because in all aspects of
lives, lawyers are respected people except some few who may chose to
mess up themselves.
We are not going to be blackmailed into silence, this man if we use him
as the vice president of Nigeria, it will add a boost to the presidency
of General Muhammadu Buhari.
Hence we are seen on the streets campaigning to ordinary Nigerians and i
tell you the response have been encouraging from all the states we have
been to’, he said.
