A devoted elderly couple were found dead outside their home in the Outer Hebrides this morning after temperatures plunged below zero last night.
Postmaster Donald and Maureen Macmillan, who were in their 70s, have been named locally as the tragic couple who were found dead behind bins at around 8am.
As police launch an investigation into the "unexplained" deaths, locals near the couple's home on the Isle of Lewis said they thought Mr Macmillan may have slipped on the ice as he went to pit the bins
out.
They fear he was injured and his wife then went out to help but also suffered a tragic end outside their home, which also housed the remote and scattered area's post office.
