The Jamaican strolled home in a time of 10:07 ahead of tomorrow's semi-finals and final as he bids for a triple-triple gold.
Bolt's start was not to his liking but he pushed on to pip Bahrain's Andrew Fisher in the final 10m to win the heat.
Bolt's rival Justin Gatlin also won his heat with a gentle run that came through in 10:01.
