Popular Welsh singer, Sir Tom Jones has lost his wife of 59 years Melinda Rose Woodward.
She passed away with the 75-year-old singer by her side, on Sunday, April 10 at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, after losing a short battle with cancer.
A statement released by his publicist, read: ‘Surrounded by her husband and loved ones, she passed away peacefully at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. Sir Tom and his family have asked for privacy at this difficult time and no further information is currently available.’
The couple married at the age of just 17 in 1957, when they were expecting their first child together, with their son Mark Woodward, who’s now 59, being born a month after their wedding.
Jones was awarded an OBE in 1999 and received a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II for ‘services to music’ in 2006.
