As Fuji music star, Sule Alao Malaika celebrates his birthday today, February 15, 2016, we bring you 15 facts you probably didn’t know about the talented musician.

  • Sulaimon Alao Adekunle Malaika, known to his fans and friends all over the world as Alayeluwa, Madiba, Jagaban Fuji, Ike Anobi, KS1 D Pride etc, hails from Ago Owu, in Abeokuta North Local Government area of Ogun State.
  • He also has links with Ibadan, the acclaimed second largest black city in Africa and capital of the old Western region of the same country, through his mother.
  • Born and bred in Lagos, he grew up living at various times in Mushin, Oshodi, Agege and Lagos Island and was educated at Oyewole Primary School and Yewa High School, both in Agege, Lagos.
  • A devout Muslim, he performed the Hajj in 1999 and later in 2005, thereby fulfilling one of the injunctions of the holy Prophet Muhammed (S.A.W).
  • Married to lovely women and blessed with adorable children, he is equally a loving, devoted, doting and caring husband and father.
  • Prodigiously talented, Malaika’s music reflects the vision of the Yoruba race, a mission of restoration and championing the near forgotten Yoruba values and heritage.
  • Malaika started music as a ‘Were’ singer (Were is the early morning, Ramadan season chant, used to wake Islamic faithfuls), before graduating to the circle of music masters when he formed his first Fuji band, the Tekoye Fuji Organization in 1985, though he’s had a group with which he sang ‘Were’ for some years before then.
  • King Sule Alao Adekunle Malaika (KS1) is the leader and founder of the PRIDE OF FUJI BAND. Initially formed in 1985 and known then as the Tekoye Fuji Organization, the band’s name changed in 1997 to MALAIKA FUJI ORGANIZATION before the latest change of name in 2005.
  • The Pride of Fuji band is comprised of about 35 members.
  • The band members are led by Alhaji Abiodun Alashe Soaga aka T.A Showkey, a vocalist, while Alhaji Shola Arowoshaiye is the band’s General Manager.
  • KS1 leads by example, a confirmation that he is a complete musician, is he also plays all percussions and is trying his hands on some string instruments.
  • He is an international musician. The Fuji star has traveled to almost 30 countries in propagating and marketing Fuji music to the world at large.
  • He has churned out close to 20 albums and has won several notable awards.
  • From November 1993 when he went into the then highly rated Decca Studio (AFRODISIA) to record his debut album, MR. WONDER (released in February 1994), KS1 has continued to push into the market, highly rated, thought-provoking and dance-able albums.
  • Among his popular albums are: Masterpiece (1995), Legend (1996), Malaika (1997), American Dream (1998), Correction (1998), Correction (1999), Recompense (2000), CNN (2002), Unstoppable (2003), Interlink (2003), Peace-Maker (2004), Alayeluwa (2005), European Knockout (2006), Dedication (2007), Elevator and Motivator (2009), Africa Like Europe (2009) and Proper Music (2011).
