Liverpool's €70m transfer setback, club won't make third bid for forward

Liverpool's €70m transfer setback, club won't make third bid for forward - originally posted on Soccerlens.com

Liverpool have made two bids for Shakhtar Donetsk forward Alex Teixeira up until now, and both has been rejected. According to reports from Sky Sports, the Reds are unlikely to make a third bid for the Brazilian forward.

Ian Ayre, Liverpool’s chief executive, flew out to Florida earlier this month to hold talks with Shakhtar over a possible transfer, but the Ukrainian club proved difficult to negotiate with.

Shakhtar rejected Liverpool’s opening £24m bid for the player, as they felt it was too low to start with.

When Liverpool delegation arrived for talks, the player’s valuation was increased to a minimum £35m, but Shakhtar want any potential buyer to meet the player’s buyout clause, which is around €70m

Teixeira remains Shakhtar’s last remaining valuable asset, and they are looking to get the maximum return out from his potential sale.

The player himself has publicly stated that he wants to join Liverpool, but it is clear that club do not want to sell him now in order to spark a bidding war in the summer and bring in Spanish / other Premier League clubs into the mix.
