In our street, We have a group of local vigilante group who take care of security and when ever they are patrolling and see any yard with an unlocked gate from 11pm, they will chain and lockup the house from outside and they wont open up for you in the morning until you pay a N2000 fine.
Our co tenant who lives downstairs who was supposed to lock the gate forgot to do so and the vigilantee men came in the middle of the night and locked us in.
When we woke up this morning, My husband wanted to go outside to get water so he can watch the car for school run only to discover the locked gate with the vigilante man standing outside waiting for our yard people to come and pay fine before he would let us out. I dont know what transpired between my husband and the security people but as i started hearing voices of commotion and the a gun shot followed. I rushed out to the veranda to see what was happening and I saw my husband and the vigilante man exchanging words. My husband was threatening to break the chain and key they used in locking our house and the vigilante man was shooting in the air maybe to scare him or something. Suddenly my husband turned and rushed upstairs, I was pleading with him to not go back down but he refused. he went into the toilet and opened the spoilt tank of our water system and brought out a dusty water proof. he opened up and it was a gun. I was shocked. he emptied the bag and bullets and started loading the gun, I was shell shocked and I just stood their trying to convince myself that I was dreaming or just imagining things. My kids were also brushing their teeths and they saw him. My daughter who was his favorite stared crying before he picked up the rest of the bullet and pocketed them and headed back downstairs. I ran to the landlords house to call him before something goes wrong. From the landlords veranda, i saw that people had gathered down stairs and they were subduing my husband while the vigilantee people have doubled and were thretning to shoot him for challenging them. Our landlord offered to pay the N2000 before they calmed down.
My dilemma is that I saw a part of my husband that I have not seen in my 11 years with him. How could he have a gun and also kept it in my house knowing full well how kids are and how they could ransack places anyhow. The look on his eyes this morning was something I have never seen, He looked like he was about to murder someone. He ignored me and even his daughter who he has a very soft spot for. The security people said that they will report him to police for having a gun and that he will provide the license since he wanted to shoot them. Since he came back up, I have been asking him about the gun and how he got it but he is not saying anything to me. I angrily asked him to forget about taking the children to school since he now carry's guns around. He didnt say a word, he just dressed up and left with his gun. This was a man I could vouch for that he could not hurt a fly. I dont know if he really wanted to kill the vigilante man or whether he was bluffing. I am confused. I think I should call his father and tell him what I saw although we had agreed not to discuss our intimate family issues with anybody outside the home but this is more than I can handle. I cant have my kids living and playing around a home with a gun in the toilet. Please what do you suggest I do.
