Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez has been in outstanding form this season. The Algerian midfielder has scored 11 goals and registered seven assists to his name so far.

Alongside Jamie Vardy, he is one of the key players for Leicester this season, and has played a major role in taking the Foxes to the league summit after round of 16 in the Premier League.

Mahrez’s stunning form has caught the attentions of several heavy weight Premier League clubs like Manchester United and Arsenal.

Last month, news broke out in France that Manchester united had contacted the player’s agent over a possible move in the January transfer window.

Kamel Bengougam, Mahrez’s agent however quashed such rumours, claiming there hasn’t been any contact with the Red Devils and that his client is happy to continue at Leicester for the reminder of the season.

It seems Mahrez himself is not too interested in jumping to a big club at the moment. He is enjoying a phenomenal campaign at Leicester, and is keen to end the campaign on a high.

Speaking in an interview on RMC, he said: “It would be best for me to stay.

“I will not leave in January, it would not be good for my team if I left.

“If you lose a player like me or [Jamie] Vardy, it may penalise the team.

“I prefer to continue with the team until the end of the year.”

As it stands, chances of signing Mahrez in the January transfer window is very slim. Leicester may look to cash in on him next summer, when they are expected to get better offers for the 24-year-old midfielder. Manchester United may fancy a chance then, provided they still retain the interest in him.
