Ministerial Nominees Must Declare Assets – Senate

The Senate on Thursday, October 8, said that the ministerial nominees are to declare their assets with proof.
Dino Melaye, the spokesperson of the Senate made this known during a briefing with the media on how the ministerial screening will take place on Tuesday.

He said all ministerial nominees should submit a minimum of 115 copies of their resumes to the Senate on or before next Tuesday.

He explained that two modalities will be used for the screening.

“We considered a number of screening that has to do with the approach of the ministerial nominees.

“Two modalities were developed for the screening, the modalities are  the constitution of the Senate and the convention of the Senate.”

“In the screening of the ministerial nominees, this section 147, section 5, section 120 and section 65 will be strongly adhered to.

Melaye added that a minimum of two senators must show support for the ministerial nominee.

“The era of bow and go has been eradicated but members of the National Assembly will not face as much scrutiny than the others but they will be called first.

“Members of the National Assembly will be screened only by the chairman and will be done with the interest of the public,” said.

However, when asked if the senate can wave the rule that says that a minimum of two senators must show support to the nominee from their state, Melaye said he cannot predict the future.

The Senate president, Bukola Saraki on Tuesday, October 2 at the plenary made public the long awaited ministerial list which contained 21 nominees including former governors Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers state and Babatunde Fashola of Lagos state among others.
