Abuja - The decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to shift the general elections by six weeks has caused a division among lawmakers, reports Punch.

The division is however, based on party lines.

While the All Progressives Congress (APC) members condemned the shift, the PDP caucus embraced the postponement and commended INEC for having the courage to do the right thing by not denying millions of Nigerians their right to vote.

The APC caucus in the House of Representatives not only condemned the shift but also accused INEC of being a puppet in the hands of the Presidency.

Femi Gbajabiamila, APC House Minority Leader, stated that the independence of INEC has been put to question following the postponement.

Leo Ogor, PDP House Deputy Majority Leader, however, said INEC did the right thing by not plunging the country into a major political crisis.
