The National Assembly Election Petitions
Tribunal in Minna on Friday upturned the result of the Niger East
Senatorial by-election conducted on August 30, 2014. The 3-man tribunal
ruled that the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC),
Barrister David Umaru, was the rightful winner of the election.
Justice Ibrahim Bako, who was chairman
of the tribunal, said that Umaru polled 70,779 votes as against the
PDP’s Shem Zagbayi Nuhu who gor 68,525 votes.
Umaru of APC had petitioned the tribunal
challenging the declaration of Nuhu of PDP by the Independent National
Electoral Commission (INEC) as the winner of the by-election.
