Akwa Ibom APC governorship candidate, Umana Umana, says “political office is not for grandfathers”

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Akwa Ibom state, Umana Umana, made the same kind of slip which was made two weeks ago by the governor of Lagos state, Babatunde Fashola.
Recall that two weeks ago, at a rally in Lagos, Gov. Fashola had claimed that the PDP candidate for Lagos governor, Jimi Agbaje, was too old to be governor. Fashola came under criticism for the statement, considering that he backs the 72-year old Muhammadu Buhari who is the candidate of his party to become Nigeria’s next president.
Following in Fashola’s footstep was Umana Umana, who said – while presenting his running mate, Engr. Ben Ukpong, recently – that political office was for “vibrant youths, not grandfathers.”
His statement was meant as to poke the running mate to the PDP candidate, Moses Ekpo, who is 77 years old.
The statement has however set tongues wagging, not just because Umana’s running mate who is 52 years old is not even a youth, but because Umana’s party, the APC, is fielding a 72-year old as presidential candidate.
Anyway, Umana described his 52-year old running mate as a vibrant youth who was a perfect fit for the office of Deputy Governor, because of his age and his vibrancy.
