The third edition of the Africa prestigious annual entertainment award, the 2016 AFRIMMA (African Music Magazine Awards) was held on Saturday in the United States of America at the Black Academy of Arts and Letters in Dallas, Texas.
The award night, hosted by the Nigerian popular comedian, Basketmouth and American supermodel, reality television star and actress, Cynthia Bailey, saw several Nigerians rewarded for their massive input into the growth of the entertainment industry in the continent.
Phyno (the Playmaker), after being nominated thrice went on to win a single accolade which is the "Best Rap Act", beating off strong contenders in Olamide, AKA, Cassper Nyovest and Sarkodie.
Harrysong's Reggae Blues eventually got rewarded as the award "Best Collaboration" of the year while Olamide came through as the "Best Male West Africa".
Wizkid was rewarded for his penetration into the international market with the award for "Crossing Boundaries With Music", outclassing close contenders in Nigeria-British grime singer, Tinie Tempah, Nigerian-American G-Unit act, Rotimi, as well as Nigerian RCA Records talent Ayo Jay and C4 Pedro from Angola.
After great performance at the arena, 2Nite Entertainment highlife royale, Flavour N'Abania emerged winner for the award of "Artist of the year" while Triple MG Tekno emerged winner for "Best Song of the year" with "Duro" single.
Other Nigerians that made the list of the winners include the likes of Dj Deemoney who won the award for "Best African DJ USA", Patrick Elis for "Best Video Director" and Masterkraft for "Best Music Producer of the year".
You will believe with me that Nigerians dominated the award winners list as they won 9 of the 17 contestable categories by Nigeria and 8 of the 15 general categories for all Africans.
The limelight of the event is the outclassing of Nigeria favorite female stars in Tiwa Savage and Yemi Alade by Ghanaian songstress, the Wizkid's StarBoy Worldwide first lady, Efya for the award of "Best Female Act West Africa".
Big losers can be invariably be the two top songstress above who failed to win any trophy from their healthy nominations.
