Manchester United target's mega offer revealed by father, club were willing to pay €190m - originally posted on Soccerlens.com

Neymar’s father has admitted that the Barcelona superstar received a mega offer to leave the Camp Nou last summer.

According to Catalunya Radio, Neymar Sr disclosed this information during an ongoing trial in respect of the player’s transfer to Barcelona from Santos.

Catalan newspaper Sport relays that the club in question were reportedly willing to pay Neymar’s €190m release clause.

Neymar’s father, however, said in front of judge Jose de la Mata that his son intends to renew his contract with Barcelona, and that he will not be listening to any other offers.

We can fairly guess that the club is question here is Manchester United.

Back in August, reports emerged in Brazil that United had offered €190m for Neymar. The player himself admitted earlier in the season that United had been in contact with him over a potential transfer.

La Liga giants Real Madrid are also reportedly interested in signing the Brazilian, and club president Florentino Perez is willing to meet the aforementioned release clause

Neymar has been in tremendous form this season, and doesn’t seem to be distracted by the off-pitch problems.

Barcelona fans will be happy to hear that Neymar doesn’t want to leave the club anytime soon, however, media will continue to speculate on his future, unless he signs a contract extension with the La Liga champions.

All January 2016 Premier League Transfers

All January 2016 Premier League Transfers - originally posted on Soccerlens.com

Welcome to Soccerlens.com’s complete January transfer deadline day roundup, with all Premier League comings and goings from yet another mad month found below.

While there have been plenty of interesting pieces of business involving English soccer’s elite clubs over the last month, we were all blindsided by the announcement of Pep Guardiola’s impending arrival at Manchester City. The Bayern Munich boss will take charge at the end of the season on a three year contract, which perhaps explains the lack of transfer movement at the club in the winter transfer window.

Still, while City kept their wallet in their pocket there was plenty for soccer fans to get their teeth into!

Five Players Manchester United could have signed in January

Five Players Manchester United could have signed in January

Five Players Manchester United could have signed in January - originally posted on Soccerlens.com

It has been a frustrating January transfer window for the Manchester United fans. Not a single player arrived this month, and no attempt has been made to make necessary reinforcements when it really mattered.

For the first time since 2005, United have failed to sign a player in January. If the results do not improve soon, the atmosphere at Old Trafford could turn acerbic and mutinous.

Louis van Gaal has taken a big gamble here. He previously stated that he would not buy players for the sake of buying. He said earlier this month:

“They must be of a certain quality because I do not want to buy players just for the sake of buying, and I do not want to bring in players as short-term solutions.”

Despite United’s inconsistent form in the league (two wins in their last 10 games), the Dutchman was confident of a successful title challenge.

“Four clubs are above us and it will be difficult to get past them, but not impossible,” he said. “In various leagues you have seen this sort of thing happen before and at this stage we just have to believe we can do it. The first thing to do is start winning games and if you can keep doing that then you can start to put pressure on others.”

Imagine, had United signed a striker, a full back and a winger, the Red Devils would have approached the rest of the season with a different mindset. Here we take a look at five players United could have signed in January.

Edinson Cavani

This was probably the best chance for United to sign Cavani, whose relationship with PSG manager Laurent Blanc has grown cold in recent months. Cavani was reportedly keen to join a club that could offer him a chance to play in his favourite #9 role. United reportedly made an offer to sign the Uruguayan, but probably they didn’t push hard enough.

Felipe Anderson

The Brazilian was perfect for United. He is fast, skilful, and versatile. Lazio simply wanted to sell him at the right price. United made several contacts with the player’s agent, but somehow, the interest died down of all a sudden.

Ahmed Musa

Also wanted by Leicester, another striker who could have been a good addition to the squad. United were never willing to pay £23m for the Nigerian.

Ever Banega

While United are choc-a-bloc with central midfielders at present, the Red Devils are probably looking to add quality players in that area probably with a view to replacing ageing star like Michael Carrick.

Argentine midfielder Banega was linked with a move to Old Trafford in January, but United probably didn’t show enough interest in him. The same can be about Fulham’s Moussa Dembele or Benfica’s Renato Sanches.

Long list of Full backs

United wanted to sign a full-back in the January transfer window, but were unsuccessful in their attempt to get one. The likes of Mathieu Debuchy and Omar Elabdellaoui have been linked with a move on deadline day, but it was probably too late by that time.

Stoke City travel to Old Trafford this evening for an exciting Premier League clash against Manchester United.

The home side have already dropped a lot of points this season and will be looking to close the gap with top four rivals Tottenham with a morale boosting win in front of their own fans.

Meanwhile, Stoke City have been very impressive so far and are just four points behind Manchester United. Stoke are very much in the race for European places this season and Mark Hughes will be aiming for an upset at Old Trafford tonight.

After a defeat against Southampton at home, Manchester United got back to winning ways with an impressive 3-1 win over Derby in the FA Cup this week and Van Gaal will be looking to build on it with another win against Stoke.

It is different story for Stoke City. Mark Hughes has transformed the side in terms of playing style and they have been rewarded accordingly. The Potters have made some intelligent signings including the deadline day move for Giannelli Imbula.

It will be interesting to see how Manchester United cope with an impressive Stoke City side later today, especially with most of their defenders ruled out due to injury.

Juan Mata and David De Gea

Manchester United v Stoke Team News

Manchester United are plagued with injuries at the moment. The Red Devils are worryingly short at the back with most of his defenders injured for the Stoke City clash.

Marcos Rojo, Darmian, Jones, Shaw are all ruled out with injury. The likes of Valencia and Young are also expected to miss out.

Michael Carrick made his comeback in the 3-1 win over Derby on Friday and should start against Stoke.

Guillermo Varela is expected to continue at right-back.

It is a similar story for Stoke City as well. Mark Hughes will be without his first choice defenders Ryan Shawcross, Marc Wilson and Geoff Cameron.

Marc Muniesa has returned from a long-term injury lay off.

New signing Giannelli Imbula wasn’t registered in time to play today.

The next three games are absolutely vital for Leicester, including the fixture against Liverpool on Tuesday, that could determine the outcome of their season.

Many thought that at some point during the season Leicester would crumble under pressure and slip away from the title race. They have already surpassed all expectations and are not showing any such signs of slowing down.

On Tuesday night, the Foxes play host to Liverpool, who won the reverse fixture 1-0 at Anfield on the Boxing Day.

Liverpool are in a strange situation. At times, the Reds have played some eye-catching football under Jurgen Klopp, but have been equally inconsistent with their performances.

They are eight points off the top four at the moment, and unless the results improve dramatically, it is hard for them to close the gap with other top four contenders in the league.

The Reds played out a thrilling 5-4 win against Norwich in their last Premier League game, and should be in full of confidence ahead of this match. However, they have only won three of their last eight league games.

Leicester vs Liverpool team news

Claudio Ranieri is without Jeffrey Schlupp and Matthew James, both are out injured for this game. Ritchie de Laet is also a major doubt for this tie. The Italian, however, could field an unchanged side that won 3-0 over Stoke last time out.

Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson is a doubt for Liverpool, but he is expected to start. Joe Allen could replace him should the England midfielder fail to recover in time.

Christian Benteke was poor against West Ham and the Belgian striker is likely to be dropped to the bench.

Leicester vs Liverpool: Possible Lineups

Possible Leicester line-up (4-4-2): Schmeichel, Simpson, Morgan, Huth, Fuchs, Mahrez, Drinkwater, Kante, Albrighton, Okazaki, Vardy

Possible Liverpool line-up (4-3-3): Mignolet, Moreno, Sakho, Lovren, Clyne, Can, Lucas, Henderson, Lallana, Firmino, Milner

Leicester vs Liverpool: Key Stats

1 – Liverpool have won once in their last four games

7 – Liverpool are undefeated in their last seven matches against Leicester in all competitions.

15 – Leicester are undefeated in 15 of their last 16 matches in the Premier League.

Prediction: Leicester 2-1 Liverpool

“Somebody will win it. You have to have strong performances to win the title,” said Arsene Wenger during his pre-match press conference on Monday when asked to comment on the Premier League title race.

The Gunners are just three points behind leaders Leicester City but they could finish top of the table after round 24 Premier League games, if other results go their way.

Arsenal however are lacking in consistency, having won only once in their last four games. On Tuesday night, Wenger’s side are up against Southampton, who thrashed the Gunners 4-0 in the reverse fixture in December.

The Boxing Day victory against the Gunners came almost out of the blue. It came midway in an otherwise disastrous run of ten games, where the Saints collected just one other point during that period.

The results were so bad that it forced Ronald Koeman to entirely reshape his side. He switched to a three-man defence and since then the Saints have won three games in a row, including a confidence-boosting 1-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford in their last game.

This fixture therefore promises to be a cracker. Arsenal will be looking to put pressure on other title contenders with a win at home, while Southampton will be eyeing fourth straight win for the first time this season.

Arsenal vs Southampton: Team News

Wenger confirmed in his pre-match press conference that Jack Wilshere was recovering smoothly from his ankle injury, but the England midfielder is still four weeks away from returning to training.

Tomas Rosicky suffered an injury on his return to first-team action at the weekend and the Croatian has been ruled out for this tie.

Francis Coquelin is in contention to make his first Premier League appearance since November after emerging out unscathed through the FA Cup win over Burnley.

Danny Welbeck has returned to training but the England striker is still short of match fitness. Alexis Sanchez, however, has returned to full fitness, and the Chilean should make his first start in a league game since November on Tuesday.

Southampton are missing several key players for the trip to Arsenal. Steven Davis, Florin Gardos and Jay Rodriguez are all ruled out, whereas Maarten Stekelenburg and Graziano Pelle remain major doubts.

Charlie Austin came off the bench to score the winner against Manchester United on Saturday, and he is in line to make his first league start for Southampton on Tuesday night.

Arsenal vs Southampton: Possible starting lineups

Arsenal possible starting lineup:

Cech, Bellerin, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal, Coquelin, Ramsey, Campbell, Ozil, Sanchez, Giroud

Southampton possible starting lineup:

Forster, Bertrand, Dijk, Fonte, Soares, Classie, Wanyama, Targett, Mane, Tadic, Austin

Arsenal vs Southampton: Key Stats

3 – Southampton have won their last three games in the Premier League

3 – Southampton have kept a clean sheet in their last three games in the league

10 – Arsenal are undefeated in 10 of their last 11 matches against Southampton

Prediction: Arsenal 1-1 Southampton
