Madrid bans spark transfer scramble

Madrid bans spark transfer scramble

Madrid bans spark transfer scramble - originally posted on Soccerlens.com

Spanish giants Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have been prevented from buying players until the summer of 2017.

The transfer ban has been imposed on the Madrid clubs by football’s governing body FIFA as punishment for contravening the rules relating to signing players under the age of 18.

The ban comes into effect from the next transfer window – i.e. summer 2016.

Both the clubs have been heavily fined: Atletico £622,000 and Real £249,000.

The transfer embargo leaves Real Madrid with bigger problems than their derby rivals.

Atletico boast a deep squad and have a talented group of young players, who are expected to form the spine of the team for years to come.

In Jan Oblak (23), Atleti have one of the best young goalkeepers in the world at present.

Central defender Jose Maria Gimenez (20) is considered the next big superstar emerging for Spain.

Saul Niguez and Oliver Torres (both 21) are already attracting interest from top European clubs.

Furthermore, they have bolstered their midfield by signing Augusto Fernandez from Celta Vigo and Matias Kranevitter from River Plate this month.

The Rojiblancos also boast a rich pool of talent in the forward department as well.

Angel Correa (20), Luciano Vietto and Yannick Carrasco (both 22) are already regular members in the side.

Simply put, Atletico have the necessary resource from within to continue a season without making any new additions.

All they need is to keep hold of their star players like Koke or Antoine Griezmann, who are attracting interests from heavyweight Premier League clubs.

The same cannot be said about Real Madrid, who follow a different business model.

Transfer window to them is like water to a fish, and key to how the club is run.

It will be really interesting to see how they go through a season without being involved in transfer activities.

Zinedine Zidane can only able to promote from within, but what options does he have?

Marco Asensio and Jesus Vallejo (both 19) have impressed in their loan spells with Espanyol and Real Zaragoza.

Likewise, Odegaard is a highly rated youngster but he hasn’t done well since moving to Real Madrid last summer.

Madrid are likely to appeal against the sanction, which can delay it’s implementation.

Barcelona successfully did this in 2014, and Madrid can follow the same trail.

So, what’s the bottom line?

The ban is likely to send the transfer market into turmoil.

For instance, it ends all hope for Manchester United to sign one of Cristiano Ronaldo or Gareth Bale from Real Madrid.

Bale has reportedly grown unsettled at Madrid, following the departure of Rafael Benitez.

The Welsh winger insisted last week that he was happy to remain, but United had been encouraged that a deal may be possible.

Likewise, there has been a lot of speculation on Ronaldo’s future in recent weeks.

The uneasy relationship between Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes and Real president, Florentino Perez, has given rise to suspicions that the 30-year-old could be sold.

United were hoping to bring him back to Old Trafford next summer, but it seems, any move for the Portuguese is now highly unlikely.

Chelsea’s attempts to sign Diego Simeone as Guus Hiddink’s long term replacement may have also been damaged.

The Argentine have stated his loyalty for Atletico time and again, and may well reject the idea of leaving the club at this crucial period.

How the ban can spark a transfer scramble

David de Gea, Manchester United

Linked with: Real Madrid

The Spaniard signed a long-term contract at United after seeing his move to Madrid broke down at the last minute last summer.

United probably were expecting a bid from Madrid next summer, but the Old Trafford camp can now relax for another year.

Eden Hazard, Chelsea

Linked with: Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain

Zidane is reportedly a big fan of the Chelsea winger.

The Belgium international has emerged as the most likely replacement for either Ronaldo or Bale, should they leave.

If the ban is upheld, PSG likely to emerge as firm favourites for his signature in the summer.

Robert Lewandowski, Bayern Munich

Linked with: Real Madrid, Manchester United

The Polish international is believed to be contemplating leaving Germany next summer.

Madrid had identified him as a potential replacement (and an upgrade) for Karim Benzema. Now they are out of the race, United may fancy their chances.

Paul Pogba, Juventus

Linked with: Manchester City, Chelsea, Barcelona, Real Madrid

The France midfielder is expected to leave Italy next summer.

The chances of him being the next Galactico is off the rank. Instead, Barcelona now emerge as strong favourites to sign him.

John Stones, Everton

Linked with: Real Madrid, Manchester United, Chelsea

Benitez had recommended Stones to Real’s hierarchy as per The Times during his spell at the club.

Madrid still retain an interest, but he will probably move to another Premier League club next summer.

Liverpool have announced that they have signed the 24-year-old English defender Steven Caulker on loan from Queens Park Rangers.

Caulker is expected to provide short term defensive cover at Liverpool. The Reds have been plagued with injuries at the moment and are without most of the first team players.

Liverpool signing Caulker will come as a bit of shock considering the fact that they were looking in the Bundesliga for defenders. It seems that they have realised there is no chance to signing their primary targets and have decided to move for the QPR centre-back as a short term solution.

According to Echo, Caulker could feature in the squad against Arsenal tomorrow. The likes of Skrtel and Lovren are ruled out with injuries.

The defender was registered with the Premier League before the noon deadline, which means he is eligible to feature against Arsenal.

It will be interesting to see if Caulker can make an impressing at Anfield. The 24-year-old used to be rated highly during his time at Swansea and Spurs.

However, the Englishman did not quite develop the way he was expected to and has failed to fulfill his potential so far.

Morgan Schneiderlin is expected to return against Newcastle to partner Michael Carrick in midfield. Bringing back the former Saints midfielder could be a brilliant move. Newcastle will look to hit the away side on the break and Schneiderlin could prove to be vital in breaking up those attacks.

Liverpool lodge bid to 24-year-old defender, Reds chase Serbian winger

Having seen failures in attempt to sign Bundesliga centre-halves Neven Subotic and Joel Matip, Liverpool have shifted their attention towards QPR defender Steven Caulker in an effort to solve their defensive injury crisis.

The Reds have made an emergency loan bid to sign the former Cardiff player, per Chris Bascombe of The Telegraph

Caulker, 24, is currently on a season-long loan at Southampton from QPR, but he has struggled for regular games in Ronald Koeman’s side.

Klopp was keen to add an experienced defender to the side after the series of injuries to his centre-backs in the past few weeks. He was keen to sign his former player Neven Subotic, but Borussia Dortmund have refused to do any business this month.

Matip could sign a pre-contract agreement now as he is available on a Bosman in the summer, but securing a deal for him has tuned problematic as well.

As a result, Liverpool have looked to the loan market to find a short-term solution. Klopp was initially reluctant to do any business in January, but the situation has changed due to the injury crisis.

Caulker is currently on loan at Southampton, but it can be cancelled if Liverpool manage to agree a deal to bring him to Anfield on a short term basis.

Liverpool lost all their four established defenders for the Friday’s FA Cup tie against Exeter City – Martin Skrtel, Mamadou Sakho, Dejan Lovren, and Kolo Toure. Both Sakho and Toure, however, are likely to feature in Wednesday’s crunch Premier League tie, when Arsenal travel to Merseyside.

Moving to other news, Liverpool are interested in signing Serbian teenager Andrija Zivkovic, who is also attracting interests from Premier League giants Manchester City.

The 19-year-old plays for Partizan Belgrade (5m euro price quoted by L’Equipe, via 101 Great Goals) where he is the captain of the side. He is the youngster player ever to make a senior appearance for the Serbian national team, and now has been linked with a move to a big European club.

His contract expires at the end of the season, and could move elsewhere at a cut-price deal.

Transfer Lens: Arsenal to bid £14m for striker, Manchester United in talks to sign £18m midfielder

Transfer Lens: Arsenal to bid £14m for striker, Manchester United in talks to sign £18m midfielder - originally posted on Soccerlens.com

Arsene Wenger confirmed in the press conference ahead of the Liverpool clash in the Premier League that the Gunners are hoping to complete the signing of Mohamed Elneny within this week.

The Basel midfielder, however, may not be the only signing for the Gunners in the January transfer window, as latest reports suggest the North London club are looking to sign a striker, with Wenger planning to bring Celta Vigo’s Nolito at the Emirates.

According to reports from Mundo Deportivo (h/t The Telegraph) Arsenal are looking to trigger Nolito’s £13.4m buyout clause, as he refuses to commit his future at Celta.

The 29-year-old impressed last season with 13 goals and 14 assists in all competitions, and has been in good form this season as well, managing eight goals and further five assists in 15 appearances.

Nolito’s impressive form over the past two years has seen him break into the Spain national team. He is not an out-an-out classic #9 striker, but a prolific goal scorer from wide positions, with an ability to create goals for others.

The Gunners are heavily linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but the Gabon international has ruled out a possible move to the Premier League. Nolito will represent a cheaper alternative to Aubameyang, but still be a good addition to the side, although Arsenal are facing a strong competition from Barcelona for his signature.

Barcelona manager Luis Enrique is desperate to sign Nolito, as he feels the Spaniard could provide the perfect alternative to Suarez and Neymar.

Manchester United in talks to sign Saul Niguez

Spanish radio station Cadena Cope claimed recently Manchester United had been preparing a €20m bid to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez.

The Premier League giants are looking to sign him in the January transfer window, but should the deal falls through, the Red Devils will move for the youngster in the summer.

The same radio station reports on Monday (h/t Sport Witness) that Manchester United have sent a delegation to Madrid to complete a deal for the 21-year-old midfielder.

Atletico aren’t willing to sell, obviously, as Diego Simeone feels the rising Spain star remains a big part of his plans.

Manchester United are also reportedly interested in signing Brazilian midfielder Felipe Anderson, but Lazio insist they have not received any bid this month from the Red Devils.
