Everton have announced that Farhad Moshiri will become the majority shareholder at the Merseyside club.

The British-Iranian businessman purchased a 49.9% stake in the Premier League club and the deal was confirmed by Everton this weekend.

Chairman Bill Kenwright finally brought an end to the decade-long search for investment. Moshiri is valued at £1.3bn by Forbes. The former Arsenal shareholder decided to sell his stake at the London club to his business partner, Alisher Usmanov, on Friday.

He then went on to pay around £87.5m for the Everton shares. It is understood that Everton are valued at around £175m.

The report states that there is an agreement for Moshiri to purchase more shares in future and become the majority owner of Everton football club. The deal is a mere formality now, subject to Premier League approval.

Moshiri will own Robert Earl’s stake in Everton, along with that of Kenwright and the director Jon Woods.

Kenwright will remain as Everton’s chairman for an interim period and will work with Moshiri during this period.

The major advantage of getting the deal done early will be the extra funds for transfers next summer. The Toffees have been promised considerable transfer funds by their new shareholder.

Earlier it seemed that the likes of Stones, Lukaku and Barkley might be headed towards the exit. However, Everton’s elevated status in the transfer market now will help them keep their stars as well as strengthen the spine of their side.

The likes of Manchester United and Chelsea are thought to be interested in Lukaku and Stones.

Furthermore, the likes of Barkley and Stones are set to be offered better contracts this summer.

The British-Iranian businessman is also keen to work on Everton’s stadium plans and will help them relocate in near future.

Apple Motion Seeks to Block Feds From Acquiring 'Dangerous Power'

Apple Motion Seeks to Block Feds From Acquiring 'Dangerous Power'

Apple last week filed a motion to vacate a federal order requiring the company to create a tool or code to unlock the iPhone of one of the San Bernardino, California, shooters. The order would set a dangerous precedent and release a powerful means to breach security on potentially millions of phones around the world, Apple argued. It transcends one phone and would empower government to make private companies compromise the security of all their users whenever it sees fit, the company said.

Premier League giants Liverpool and Chelsea are set to face each other in the International Champions Cup 2016 this summer.

The tournament is expected to begin towards the end of July after the Copa America and the European Championships.

Liverpool enjoyed a commercially successful pre-season trip to the Far East and Australia last summer and are set to return to the United States before the 2016/17 campaign.

It seems that Jurgen Klopp will need to prepare for a high-octane clash in his first ever pre-season with the Reds. However, it is unlikely that the German will be concerned about this. Instead, he might relish the prospect of facing a number of Europe’s best sides in the International Champions Cup.

According to Corriere Dello Sport, Inter Milan and AC Milan will be joined by the likes of Real Madrid, Liverpool and Chelsea in the International Champions Cup this summer.

Liverpool will face Chelsea in Los Angeles, before heading to San Francisco for their next match.

The Reds took part in the ICC in 2014 and enjoyed a good tournament. Former manager Brendan Rodgers guided them to the finals of the ICC 2014, where they were beaten by Manchester United in the final in Miami.

24,000 ghost workers will no longer be getting a salary from Nigeria

24,000 ghost workers will no longer be getting a salary from Nigeria

Nigeria removed  thousands of ghost workers, saving millions

Nigeria says it is cutting 24,000 ghost workers from the national payroll, saving $11.5 million a month

Nigeria’s government has removed almost 24,000 ghost workers from its state payroll, resulting in a monthly saving of 2.29 billion naira ($11.5 million)

Nigeria’s government has removed almost 24,000 ghost workers from its state payroll, resulting in a monthly saving of 2.29 billion naira ($11.5 million), according to the Nigerian Finance Ministry.

Muhammadu Buhari has made tackling corruption a priority since he came to power in May 2015. A number of high-profile figures have been arrested already during his tenure, including former National Security Advisor Sambo Dasuki, while the head of Nigeria’s army has ordered all military officers to declare their assets in a bid to improve transparency.

An audit was started in December 2015 using biometric data and a bank verification number to identify the holders of bank accounts into which state salaries were being paid. The audit found that many civil servants receiving a salary did not correspond to the names on the accounts and that some were receiving salaries from several sources. Wages and other personnel costs represent 40 percent of total government expenditure, according to the Finance Ministry statement reported by Reuters on Sunday.
A total of 23,846 nonexistent workers were removed from the government payroll, according to Festus Akanbi, special adviser to Nigeria’s finance minister Kemi Adeosun. Akanbi said that 312,000 civil servants had so far been checked and that the ministry would now carry out “periodic checks and utilize computer-assisted audit techniques” in a bid to crack down on corruption in the public sector.

Corruption has long dogged the economy of Nigeria, Africa’s biggest oil producer and most populous country. The country’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has recovered more than $2 trillion of stolen public funds since it was set up in 2003, Nigerian justice minister Abubakar Malami said earlier in February. Despite Buhari’s anti-corruption drive, a December 2015 report by Transparency International found that 75 percent of Nigerians believed that government corruption had increased over the previous 12 months.

Nigeria’s economy is currently struggling, largely due to a global slump in oil prices. The country’s deficit is expected to double to 2.2 trillion naira ($11 billion) in 2016 and it’s seeking loans from the World Bank in order to finance its biggest ever budget. The West African giant is heavily dependent on oil, which constitutes more than 90 percent of the value of Nigerian exports. The country’s economic credibility has also been damaged by a fiasco surrounding the implementation of the budget. After Buhari announced it in December 2015, copies of the budget went missing from the Nigerian Senate and major irregularities—such as the discovery that 795 million naira ($4 million) had been set aside to update one ministry’s website—have resulted in the firing of the head of the budget office and the delay of Nigeria’s approving its fiscal plan for 2016.

Real Madrid slumped to yet another defeat against Atletico Madrid last week and Cristiano Ronaldo’s shocking rant against his teammates went on to steal the headlines.

The Real Madrid forward has been linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu since last summer and the Portuguese has now dropped his biggest hint that he is not satisfied with the quality of players at the club.

Ronaldo’s shocking admission will further fuel speculations that he is headed to PSG or maybe the Premier League.

Manchester United have been linked with the Real Madrid superstar since last season and at one point it seemed that an Old Trafford return cannot be ruled out. The Premier League giants will be encouraged by Ronaldo’s comments if they are indeed interested in a summer move.

The Real Madrid hierarchy will not be happy with the player’s comments about his teammates. Furthermore, it will be interesting to see how the other players at the club react to his astonishing remarks.

Cristiano claimed that if his teammates were as good as him, Real Madrid would be at the top of the table. The Portuguese superstar went on to justify his comments by saying that a quick look at his stats will prove his point.

“If everyone was as good as me, maybe we would be first,” the Portuguese said.

“If a team does not play with the best, [it] is difficult to win a long competition.”

“From what the press says it seems like I am doing [expletive] but the numbers and statistics do not lie. They are there,” he added.

Although these comments could just be a simple selfish remark from Ronaldo, it could also mean that the player is fed up with life at Bernabeu and wants a move away.

An interesting summer lies ahead for Real Madrid, Ronaldo and his suitors.

UNIBEN Staffs Should Receive Compensation From Oshomole – ASUU

UNIBEN Staffs Should Receive Compensation From Oshomole – ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Nigerian
Universities (ASUU) has urged Governor Adams
Oshiomhole of Edo state to pay compensation to
members of staff of University of Benin
(UNIBEN) » over the demolition of property in the
school.

Prof. Suleiman Muhammad , Zonal Coordinator,
ASUU Abuja Zone said the governor should have
waited for the Court of Appeal to decide on
UNIBEN’s appeal before embarking on the
demolition.

“ Gov. Oshiomhole should live up to his promise to
compensate the members of staff of the UNIBEN
who were affected by the demolition.

“Members of the public will recall the uproar
generated by his action sometime ago, when he
demolished property occupied by staff of the
University of Benin.

“This action came on the heels of a court
judgment in the favour of Edo State Government
against which the university immediately filed an
appeal.

“Rather than allowing the case to run its course in
the court of appeal, Mr Oshiomhole carried on with
the demolition,’ ’ Muhammad said.

Muhammad said that the governor made several
promises to the leadership of ASUU when the
union raised objection to the demolition.

“ He also promised to allow the ongoing court
process to run its course.

“To the surprise of the leadership of the ASUU,
especially its members at UNIBEN, Oshiomhole has
gone back on his words.

“He has directed the complete demolition of the
remaining part of the structures that were the
properties of UNIBEN while the Court of Appeal is
yet to decide on the case,’’ Muhammad said.

He ended by adding that the union will not take
this situation lightly.
